Barrios Mangoré, Agustín - Guitar Music, Vol. 3 - McFadden, Jeffrey
Toimitusaika: Noin 7 - 14 arkipäivää
• Whilst he is now considered by some to be the greatest of all guitarist-composers, it is curious to think that the music of the Paraguayan Agustín Pío Barrios Mangoré fell into neglect for over three decades after his death.
• This recording comprises many of his smaller works, including the hauntingly beautiful Caazapá, and Medallon Antiguo (Old Medallion), named after a piece of jewellery worn by an opera singer from Buenos Aires with whom Barrios fell in love.
• The soloist on this, the third issue in a series to record all of Barrios’s guitar music, is Canadian Jeffrey McFadden. McFadden has already received acclaim for his previous discs on Naxos including an issue in the Naxos Laureate series: “Jeffrey McFadden's ability to make the guitar sing is second to none... furthermore Naxos's […]recording is a model of how to capture guitar sound to maximum advantage.” The Daily Telegraph on 8.553401.
• “McFadden plays [Sor’s studies], and everything else here, with humanity and respect, neither mechanically nor with any excess of romantic sweetness. This is an outstanding disc that would be cheap at twice the price.” Gramophone on Sor Guitar Music. (8 553451)
