Little did Houria Aichi realise that one day she was to become one of the foremost representatives of her people, the Shawiya Berbers of the Aurés plateau region of the Atlas Mountains of north-eastern Algeria. And that she, who had inherited the Shawiya culture, was to become the ambassadress of its rich vocal traditions, with the mission of keeping them alive.
