NEW ON NAXOS

The spotlight release in the September issue of NEW ON NAXOS is a collection of Jean Sibelius’ Incidental Music recorded by the Turku Philharmonic Orchestra and world-renowned Finnish conductor Leif Segerstam. The recordings, released individually during the 150th anniversary celebrations of the composer’s birth, are now available as a special boxed set. Soloists include soprano Pia Pajala, tenor Tuomas Katajala, baritone Waltteri Torikka, bass Nicholas Söderlund, narrator Riho Eklundh, violinist Mikaela Palmu, violist Bendik Goldstein and cellist Roi Ruottinen, with the Cathedralis Aboensis Choir.

Other highlights include:
• Gioachino Rossini’s opera Aureliano in Palmira, recorded live from the 2017 Rossini in Wildbad Bel Canto Festival. José Miguel Pérez-Sierra conducts the Camerata Bach Choir Poznan and Virtuosi Brunensis, with vocal soloists tenor Juan Francisco Gatell, soprano Silvia Dalla Benetta and mezzos Marina Viotti and Ana Victória Pitts.

AUGUST 2018

NEW ON NAXOS

Here is the August issue of NEW ON NAXOS. The spotlight recording is the audiovisual release of Jules Massenet’s fairy-tale opera Cendrillon (Cinderella) filmed on a 2017 production of Theatre Freiburg, with the Philharmonisches Orchester Freiburg conducted by Fabrice Bollon. The colourful fantasy world created by the acclaimed stage director Barbrara Mundel and set designer Olga Motta features the British-Swiss soprano Kim-Lillian Strebel, in her critically acclaimed title role.

Other highlights include:
• Prize-winning accordionist Hanzhi Wang’s debut recording, On the Path to H.C. Andersen, featuring works by contemporary Danish composers that explore both the darkness and luminosity of the famous author’s stories.

• String Trios, Opp. 8 and 12 by Polish composer Karol Józef Lipinski, recorded by violinists Voytek Proniewicz and Adam Roszkowski, and cellist Jan Roszkowski.

NEW ON NAXOS

Here is the July issue of NEW ON NAXOS. The spotlight recording is an audiovisual release of Gioachino Rossini’s comic opera Le Comte Ory, in a production by Malmö Opera, conducted by Tobias Ringborg and directed by Linda Mallik. This release features tenor Leonardo Ferrando on the title role, and also stars soprano Erika Miklósa and mezzo-soprano Daniela Pini.

Other highlights include:

• World premiere recording of Peter Joseph von Lindpaintner’s opera Il vespro siciliano (The Sicilian Vespers), recorded live from the 2015 Rossini in Wildbad Bel Canto Festival. Conducted by Federico Longo, this album features performances from an outstanding cast led by baritone Matija Meic, soprano Silvia Dalla Benetta and tenor César Arrieta, with the Camerata Bach Choir, Poznan and Virtuosi Brunensis.
